Follow Me

words-music by the late John Denver (RIP 10/12/1997)
It's by far the hardest thing I've ever-done,
To be so in love with you and so alone.

Follow me where I go, what I do and who I know,
Make it part of you to be a part of me.

Follow me up and down, all the way all around.
Take my hand and say you'll follow me.

It's long by on my mind, you know it's been a long, long time.
I'll try to find the way that I can make you understand
The way I feel about you and just how much I need you
To be there where I can talk to you when there's no one else round.
Follow me where I go, what I do and who I know,
Make it part of you to be a part of me.

Follow me up and down, all the way all around.
Take my hand and say you'll follow me.

You see, I'd like to share my life with you and show you things I've seen, places where I'm going to,
Places where I've been;
To have you there beside me and never be alone and all the time that you're with me, then we will be at home.
Wash the stains of guilt away.
Follow me where I go, what I do and who I know,
Make it part of you to be a part of me.

Follow me up and down, all the way around,
Take my hand and I will follow you!

John Denver's Follow Me and me following you, provides many reflections on relationships as we journey through this life. The Book of Genesis quotes God: "It is not good for man - nor woman - to be alone". We are not alone. We make life's journey together - hopefully for the better, and not for worse, to be enriched, and not impoverished, not only until death but even through eternity!

"The sea of life is so great and my boat is so small. I need a relationship-friendship, companionship.

Prayer to Holy Spirit

Depaul is grateful to Fr. Conrad Schomske, OFM (RIP 8/1/1986) For Conrad's devotion to Holy Spirit and suggesting this powerful Prayer to Depaul in Dp's seminary days. Sequence of Pentecost:

Holy Spirit, Lord of Light,
From Thy clear celestial height,
Thy pure beaming radiance give.

Come, Thou Wisdom of the poor.
Come with treasures which endure.
Come, Thou light of all that live.

Thou of all conforters the best.
Thou, the soul's most welcome guest.
Sweet refreshment here below.
Thou in toil are comfort sweet.
Pleasant coolness in the heat.
Solace in the midst of woe.

O most blessed Light Divine.
Shine within these hearts of Thine.
And our inmost being fill!

Heal our wounds, our strength renew.
On our dryness, pour Thy dew.
Wash the stains of guilt away.
Bend the stubborn heart and will.

Make it part of you to be a part of me.
Melt the frozen. Warm the chill.
Guide the steps that go astray.

Thou on those who evermore,
Thee confess and Thee adore,
In Thy Sevenfold* gifts descend.

Give them virtue's sure reward.
Give them Thy salvation, Lord.
Give them joys that never end! Amen! Alleluia!

* Seven gifts of Spirit: Wisdom-Understanding-Knowledge-Piety-Fortitude-Counsel-Fear of the Lord.

"For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit pleads for us with unutterable groanings". Romans 8.26.
